Daniel Shaffer married Ann Hudlow in 1783. They moved to Wythe Co., Va for a short time, later moved to Wayne County, Indiana with all their children except Jacob. In 1819, Daniel filed a suit in order to obtain a grant for a tract of land 125 acres he had purchased from Philip Fry about 1800. Fry purchased the land from Cunningham, who obtained the land by assignment from Richard Chapman. The prior owner had paid all the fees, but no patent had been issued. Chapman, Fry and Cunningham were not inhabitants of Virginia, and after proper advertising of the suit, the Court ordered that the grant issue be to Daniel Shaver.
